State Authorization for Online Education
Northeast Mississippi Community College operates under the authority of an agreement with the Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation (MCCA) to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). NC-SARA is a voluntary agreement among member states, districts, and territories in the United States, which establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. As a NC-SARA participant, Northeast is authorized to offer distance education to persons residing in other NC-SARA-member states and districts. For more information on the policies and procedures set forth by the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), please visit http://www.nc-sara.org/.
NC- SARA approval does not extend to programs that lead to professional licensure. If you live outside the state of Mississippi and are considering a program that leads to licensure, then you should contact the appropriate licensing board in your home state before you apply to Northeast. While every attempt is made to stay abreast of the laws in each state, it is the student's responsibility to contact the appropriate licensing board in his or her home state to confirm whether or not the program will meet that state's licensure requirements.
Online Education Complaint Process
Northeast Mississippi Community College seeks to resolve concerns and issues in a reasonable and timely manner. Students who have a complaint may submit their concerns to the eLearning Office at kkharris@nemcc.edu. Complaints regarding student grades or student conduct violations are governed entirely by Northeast policies. You may view the entire complaints/grievances policy on the Northeast Website. Students should use Northeast's internal complaint process before pursuing external options.
If a complaint cannot be resolved through the Northeast student complaints process, students may file a complaint with the Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation by visiting their site. Students may also contact the appropriate agency in their state of residency. A current list of agencies can be found on NC-Sara’s State Portal Entity Contact listing.
Professional Licensure
If you live outside the state of Mississippi and are considering a program that leads to licensure, it is highly recommended that you should contact the appropriate licensing board in your home state before beginning an academic program at Northeast. SARA does not provide reciprocity for state professional licensing requirements. While it is the student’s responsibility to contact the appropriate licensing board in his or her home state to confirm whether or not the Northeast program will meet the state’s licensure requirements, Northeast will make attempts to contact students who are residing out of state while enrolled in licensure programs to prompt them to check their states requirements.
Northeast Mississippi Community College Division of Health Sciences offers seven programs that prepare graduates for careers in health science. Each program in the division is accredited by national and/or state accrediting commissions or boards.
Requirements for licensure may vary from state to state and may involve more than successful degree completion and passing the national certification exam. Due to varying standards among states, Northeast Mississippi Community College recommends that students who are not Mississippi residents or who plan to seek licensure or certification outside the state of Mississippi contact the appropriate licensing agency or board before they enroll in an academic program designed to lead to licensure or certification and discuss their plans with an advisor. Northeast’s Health Science programs will lead to ability to sit for national certification. You can review review Northeast's Health Science Licensure Disclosure details.
