Okta Single Sign-On

Your OKTA dashboard...

Okta is an on-demand service that allows you to easily sign-in to all the applications Northeast uses through a single login.

With OKTA, you will log in one time, from one place and instantly have access to the apps you need to work or study at Northeast — Office 365, Canvas, CampusLogic, Banner, Civitas Learning, Penji Social Learning, and more.

  • Your apps, only one password: Use your Northeast email and password to sign-on to your applications from one central location
  • Easy access from anywhere: Okta is available in and outside of the office and even on mobile devices. This means you don’t have to be at your desk to use it.

Getting Started

You will receive an email to both your Northeast Email and the personal email address you have listed with the college.  These emails are generated for all students and employees.

When should I receive the email?

  • Students - Students should expect to see an invitation email from Okta after their application is complete and a decision for admission has been approved.
  • Employees - Employees should expect to see an invitation email from Okta after all paperwork is complete in Human Resources.

Okta activation can take up to three hours after once of the above has occurred.  Please make sure that during the application or hiring process you provide the college with a valid secondary email in order to be sure that you receive your Okta invitation.

If you do not see the invitation email in your personal email, please contact the Office of Admissions and Records to verify that the email you have on file is correct.  Many students miss the email as a result of the email on file being that of a parent or guardian.  Employees should contact the Human Resources Office to ensure your secondary email is correct.

Follow the instructions in the email to setup your Okta account.  Northeast now requires MFA (Multifactor Authentication) for all users.  MFA can be accomplished with either the Okta Verify app (easiest) or using SMS messaging.

If you need to scan the QR code but are on the device you are enrolling, click or tap the link indicating you cant scan.  This will allow you to send your self an SMS message with a link to complete enrollment.

Please setup your Okta account within seven (7) days of receiving your invitation.

Okta Instructions

  1. Go to the Northeast Okta Sign In Page (https://nemcc.okta.com).
  2. Enter your Northeast Email and Password.
  3. Click Sign In and you will be redirected to your Okta Dashboard.
  4. If you have not completed the activation steps, you WILL NOT be able to reset your password.  Please follow the instructions in the Activation Email, PRIOR to attempting to reset your password.

Okta Verify

Okta Verify AppOkta Verify is the quickest and safest way to respond to MFA requests when signing in.  By send a push request to the Okta Verify app, you can easily click Yes, Its Me to verify your identity.

The Okta Verify app is available for both Apple and Android devices.

If you did not enroll in Okta Verify when you set up your account, you can do so at any time.  Login to your Okta dashboard, and located the My Settings link by click the down arrow next to your account in the upper right hand corner of the screen. 

On the Account Setting screen, scroll down to the Extra Verification section and setup or update any of the available MFA factors.

Okta Browser Plugin

The Okta Browser Plugin, allow you to access Okta from your browser window.

To download and install the Okta Plugin, go to Okta's Download Browser Plugin Instructions and follow the link for your preferred browser. 

After downloading the browser plugin, you will be able to click on the plugin from your browser to view and sign in to any of your Northeast apps. 

Okta Mobile

Okta Mobile AppThe Okta Mobile App is available on iOS and Android devices.  It provides a quick way to access all of your apps in one location. 

The Okta Mobile app is available for both Apple and Android devices.

Accessing Your Email and Other Apps

You can access your email, canvas, and other apps form your Okta Dashboard

  1. Sign in to Okta with your Northeast Email and password
  2. Once logged in, your Okta Homepage will be displayed with all Apps that you have available.
  3. Click one of the app icons to begin using. 
  4. Okta will automatically sign you in and launch the application in a new tab of your browser.
  5. Return to the Okta tab in your browser when you are ready to start using additional apps.
  6. During the conversion period, you may be required to login multiple times as your accounts are provisioned.

Manage Your Passwords

  1. If you forgot your password, go to the Okta Sign In Page 
  2. Click Need Help Signing In? This link is below the blue Sign In button.
  3. Click Forgot Password?
  4. Enter your Northeast Email Address and click Reset via Email. (Note you can also Reset via SMS if you have previous set SMS recovery options in your Okta profile setting.)
  5. Look in your inbox for the system generated email and follow the prompts.

Verify your Secondary Email

Secondary emails are useful in case you forget your Okta password. If you forget your password, then you can request a password help link be sent to your email address. But since you're accessing your Northeast email through Okta, then you won't be able to access the email that was sent. If you have provided Okta with a secondary email address, then Okta will also send the forgotten password email to your secondary email address — making it easy to access and reset your password!

To set a secondary email:

  1. Click on your name in the upper right corner of the navigation, and click on settings.
  2. From settings, click edit next to personal information
  3. Enter a secondary email in the open text field and click save.

If your secondary email was prepopulated incorrectly, please contact the Office of Admissions and Records to have it corrected.  Future updates may overwrite any values you set.

Forgotten Password Question

Set a forgotten password question so you can reset your password in case you have trouble signing in to your Okta account.

  1. From your account settings, click edit next to the Forgotten Password Question.
  2. Select a question from the dropdown and add an answer to the answer text field.
  3. Click Save.

Add Phone Recovery

Set up a phone recovery to use for resetting your password or unlocking your account. This is important to help you in case you ever don’t have access to your email to reset a password/unlock your account. 

  1. From your account settings, find Forgot Password Text Message.
  2. Click Add Phone Number
  3. In the popup that opens, enter your cell phone number and click Send Code
  4. A code will be sent by text message to your cell phone. Enter the code in the popup window and click verify.
  5. You will get a confirmation message that the phone number is setup. Click done to be returned to your account settings.

Multifactor Authentication

Multifactor authentication can be accomplished using SMS, the Okta Verify Mobile app, or Biometric authentication.  We suggest setting up multiple forms of MFA during the setup process.  When logging in, you can choose the MFA type by clicking the small arrow next to your verification photo.
